OUR FOUNDATION

Jon Aguilar’s journey into rooftop deck building is anything but conventional. With a deep-rooted passion for stone craftsmanship, structural innovation, and outdoor environments, Jon has spent decades honing his expertise across disciplines and geographies.

A Builder’s Evolution Jon’s career began with service in the U.S. Marine Corps, followed by studies at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, where he developed a fascination with ancient construction. Traveling through Israel and Egypt, he first encountered the monumental dry stone works of Jerusalem’s Old City and the Pyramids of Giza, sparking a lifelong appreciation for structural endurance and artistry. After earning a B.A. in Political Science from UC-Boulder, Jon launched a landscape construction business in Seattle, where he was introduced to the world of drystone building. This experience led him to specialize exclusively in designing and constructing drystone features, mastering both traditional techniques and modern applications. You can learn more here.

The Transition to Rooftop Decks In 2010, Jon built his first rooftop decks—seven in total for a condominium project in Seattle, Washington. What began as a side business to his stonework quickly evolved into a full-fledged expertise. Recognizing the complexities of rooftop deck construction, he committed to using only the Buzon pedestal system, a Belgium-engineered solution known for its precision, durability, and structural adaptability. By 2011, Jon became the USA Technical Representative for Buzon, providing expert consultation, troubleshooting, and field training. A year later, he co-founded Buzon USA West and HDG Building Materials, helping to reintroduce Buzon’s pedestals across the western United States. However, in 2013, he stepped away from distribution to focus solely on what he does best—consulting, training, and constructing unique rooftop deck projects.

A Leader in the Industry With over a decade of experience in rooftop decking, Jon collaborates closely with architects, builders, and installers, ensuring every project is designed with structural integrity, material excellence, and long-term durability. Today, he remains at the forefront of the industry, solving complex rooftop challenges and executing one-of-a-kind outdoor spaces.

Through his work at Eagle Roof Decks, Jon combines timeless craftsmanship with cutting-edge engineering, proving that elevated spaces can be both functional and extraordinary. Whether consulting, training, or constructing, he brings a level of expertise that transforms visions into reality.

The Buzon Story & My Journey

I first encountered Buzon pedestals in 2010 while working on my very first rooftop deck project using their BC-series system. The engineering was so intuitive and problem-solving that I reached out to Laurent Buzon, son of Claude Buzon, the inventor of the system, and invited him for coffee in Seattle. Over that conversation, I shared my insights on how effective the BC-series pedestals were in solving real-world deck construction challenges.

That meeting led to an unexpected journey. I soon became the USA Technical Representative for Buzon, answering calls, troubleshooting installations, and traveling to industry trade shows to introduce more builders to the system. By the following year, I was granted permission to establish a Buzon distributorship and reintroduce their product across the western United States.

In 2011, I co-founded a company to distribute Buzon pedestals, but by 2013, I made the decision to focus exclusively on independent consulting, training, and building rooftop decks—the work that truly drives me. Today, I bring that experience and hands-on expertise to every project, ensuring that rooftop decks are built to the highest standards with precision, durability, and innovation.
